Sadly, The Clone Wars was wound down in early 2013, shortly after Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm. Audiences were initially skeptical, but it soon proved to be a hit. The main Star Wars movies only show the beginning and end of the Clone Wars, and George Lucas, along with The Clone Wars' director Dave Filoni, ultimately chose to revisit the conflict in an animated series. The end of the war saw the New Republic collapse, transformed into the Empire, as the Clone Army turned upon the Jedi.
